A new Broadway revival of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” is scheduled to open in spring 2027, with Tony Award-winning director Sam Gold attached to lead the production. The upcoming staging will mark the sixth Broadway revival of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” continuing the play’s long-standing presence in New York theater.
In a statement, Gold shared, “‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ is the pinnacle of what the theater can do. Two of the greatest roles for actors in the canon, delivered to us by the world’s most original playwright, at the very height of his poetic powers, exploring themes that feel as shockingly honest and blood boiling today as they did 70 years ago,” Gold said. “I couldn’t be more excited to bring this masterpiece back to New York next season.”

“Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” first premiered on Broadway in 1955, starring Barbara Bel Geddes and Ben Gazzara. The production went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama that same year. Written by Tennessee Williams and adapted from his 1952 short story “Three Players of a Summer Game,” the play is widely regarded as one of his most significant works.
Set on a Mississippi plantation, the story unfolds during a gathering to celebrate the 65th birthday of family patriarch Big Daddy Pollitt. The play focuses on tensions within the Pollitt family, particularly the relationship between Brick, a former football player struggling with alcoholism, and his wife Maggie. As the evening progresses, underlying conflicts involving inheritance, loyalty, and long-held secrets come to the surface.
Additional details, including the theater, casting, and full creative team, have not yet been announced.
